How to Request a 3D Printing, CNC or Molding Quote
A useful request for quotation (RFQ) tells us what the part needs to do, not just what it looks like. Use this checklist when sending a project to HY3D Print in Dongguan, China.
Start with these five things
- Files and revision. Send the latest 3D model and a 2D drawing when available. We accept STEP, STP, STL and OBJ files for discussion. Include units and the revision name; a sketch can start a conversation, but modeling work must be agreed separately.
- Material and intended use. Name the material grade if you know it. Describe loads, temperature exposure, appearance and assembly needs. Do not assume a similar-looking sample has the same properties.
- Quantity and repeat orders. Separate the initial sample quantity from production batches. If quantities are undecided, give the alternatives you would like quoted so the scope can be compared.
- Critical features and finish. Mark dimensions that control fit, threads, visible surfaces and the required color or texture. Include a reference image and tell us which inspection records you need.
- Delivery and approval. Include the destination country, target date and sample approval process. Distinguish when you need a sample from when you need the full order.
Add the details for your manufacturing process
FDM 3D Printing
Send STEP, STP or STL files, part dimensions, quantity, intended use, material preference and finish requirements. Mark critical dimensions and include the destination country and requested delivery date.
Silicone Mold Vacuum Casting
Send the CAD model or details of your existing master, quantity, part dimensions, required material properties, color and surface finish. Identify assembly interfaces and tell us your destination country and delivery requirements.
SLA resin printing
Specify white or clear resin, the surfaces that will be visible and a finish reference. For transparent covers, identify where clarity matters. Tell us whether the part is for appearance review, assembly or another purpose.
SLS nylon printing
Include PA11, PA12 or your requested grade, black or white finish, and how the part will be used. Mark mating surfaces, threads and any areas expected to flex. If you do not know the grade, describe the operating conditions.
Metal 3D printing
Identify the aluminum alloy or stainless steel grade, critical dimensions and inspection requirements. Separate functional surfaces from non-critical areas. Confirm any required material documentation with the quote.
CNC machining
Provide a STEP or STP model together with a dimensioned drawing. List the material grade, threads, critical tolerances and surface requirements. Point out which features control the fit of the assembly rather than applying an unexplained tight tolerance everywhere.
Mold making
Share the part design, intended molding material, planned quantities and appearance references. Explain where the mold will run and whether you have tooling standards. Agree on sample approval, mold ownership and delivery scope before production.
Injection molding
State whether you need new tooling or have an existing mold. Include resin grade, color, finish, order quantities and sample approval requirements. For existing tooling, send specifications and condition photos so compatibility can be reviewed.
Automotive models
State the model scale, overall dimensions, visible surfaces, colors and removable components. Distinguish a display model from a fit-check prototype, and flag any exhibition deadline or assembly requirements.
Compare quotations on the same scope
Ask which items are included: part production, tooling, finishing, inspection, packaging and freight. For molding, keep the tooling charge separate from the part price. Check the quoted revision, material and quantity before comparing totals.
A photograph cannot confirm a tolerance or acceptance standard. Agree on critical measurements and the sample approval steps in writing. Final pricing and timing follow the drawing review; this checklist is not a fixed-price or delivery guarantee.
Not sure which process to choose?
See our rapid prototyping services for development samples, or low-volume manufacturing services for pilot runs and repeat batches.
Send the same design, quantity and intended use for review. HY3D Print offers 3D printing, CNC machining, mold making and injection molding. We can discuss a suitable route without requiring you to select the process first.
The website form collects your project outline. Send CAD files and drawings by email or WhatsApp, and include your quote reference so our team can match the files to your inquiry.
